“The earth laughs in flowers.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
just as a giggle bubbles up and erupts …. Lucy
Ralph Waldo Emerson, a renowned poet and essayist, wrote this line in his poem “Hamatreya: Earth-Song” in 1846. The quote captures the beauty and resilience of nature, reminding us of the joy and solace that can be found in the presence of blooming flowers. It serves as a reminder to appreciate the wonders of the natural world and to find solace and inspiration in its beauty.
And with that we should also appreciate our friends and be sure to acknowledge them and tell them so!!
Yes, spring is underway in our area and the planning and planting are a top priority in getting seeds and plants ushered to their new home. At times I feel like I am running a hotel for the plants of the world as at periods they are demanding about who they sit next to in the ground and wanting to be upgraded to first class– whatever that is. I must say they do teach me new things every day. Apparently, the tomato seeds listened the other day when I gently said ‘please get out of the dirt and see this world’. Walla the little guys came up.
All exciting in reading about other gardens, planning and frustrations at times but in the end to see the hard work come together is such majestic beauty to be shared for several months. It makes it all worthwhile.

Friends can offer so much in several ways. Sharing stories of adventures, trials and tribulations to triumphant accomplishments. Hopefully this continues to shape us as we learn as well from these stories. A few listed below that include real friends to writers I follow that I feel like we are friends. So much rich stuff out there so, absorbs it all. The stories:
From a friend that was in from New York but flew into Dallas/Ft Worth area to his parent’s home base. He rented a car to make a quick visit to the coast to get a ‘recharge’ from friends here. Silly as it might sound this was his first encounter with renting an electric car. Not being clear on the milage run for each charge he went ahead and persevered and made the daring trip with a pending deadline to return to the Dallas area for the flight back to New York. Mind you he did recharge along the way. What he described as his lesson learned was amazing as it eliminated fear in him. He drove for miles on what the car was stating as zero miles left yet he went on and made it back to Dallas. Thus, it eliminated fear – he isn’t scared anymore. An added note he had news of a pending art show in London following his show in New York that he is prepping for now.
From Austin Kleon quoting a friend of his that is worn out with the endless articles about AI. So, when that friend sees a specific article, he puts it down and goes and practices his guitar. His mastering playing the guitar has improved.
He was saying that the AI hype doesn’t bother him, it just bores him, but he absolutely loathes the VR/AR headsets like the Apple Vision Pro. He said that every time he has to read another article about them and finds himself getting enraged, he picks up his guitar. “I’ve gotten so much better at guitar.” Good point to use for other irritants.
To Laura Morelli, art historian talking about her 10-year anniversary of her book titled: The Gondola Maker. She hosts an online book club where she promises lively presentation, interactive discussion, a giveaway, and some special surprises! Now that is stepping up the book club approach. She writes about historical fiction and guides about traveling in Italy.
About the story:
Venetian gondola-maker Luca Vianello considers his whole life arranged. His father charted a course for his eldest son from the day he was born, and Luca is positioned to inherit one of the city’s most esteemed boatyards.
But when Luca experiences an unexpected tragedy in the boatyard, he believes that his destiny lies elsewhere. Soon he finds himself drawn to restore an antique gondola with the dream of taking a girl for a ride.

Music
New funky garage-soul album, Visions, by Norah Jones. Out March 8th but the article in the LA Times talks about her love of Willie Nelson and Joni Mitchell. What a combo! Might be a little sad but great music. Since her first hit at 23, Jones has used her talent and her curiosity — not to mention the resources she enjoys as one of the last success stories of the CD era — to pursue all kinds of projects, including collaborations with Willie Nelson, Danger Mouse and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong; a scrappy country trio called Puss N Boots; a podcast in which she jams with friends like Dave Grohl and Mavis Staples; even a foray into acting with her role in Wong Kar-wai’s 2007 film “My Blueberry Nights.”
Yet her latest offering is her most interesting in years: Visions, a funky, gently psychedelic garage-soul record that puts her sultry vocals amid fuzzy guitars, off-kilter drums, and crinkly vintage keyboards. Jones, now 44, made the album with producer Leon Michels, known for his work as a member of the late Sharon Jones’ band, the Dap-Kings.
Art
A current show at the National Gallery of Art that ends March 31, 2024 shares work by Mark Rothko that you might not associate the style with him. Rothko is renowned for his towering abstract paintings on canvas, but few people know that he also created nearly 1,000 paintings on paper over the course of his career. He viewed many of these as finished paintings in their own right—not simply preliminary studies intended for his own eyes. These remarkable works challenge our expectations about what “counts” as painting, as well as popular ideas about Rothko and his career.
Reminder: thank you friends!!!

“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” – Audrey Hepburn. Although the original source of this quote is unknown, it is often attributed to Audrey Hepburn, the iconic actress and humanitarian. Hepburn’s words capture the hopeful and optimistic essence of gardening. This quote suggests that by planting and tending to a garden, we demonstrate a belief in the future and an investment in the beauty and growth that tomorrow may bring. It serves as a reminder to nurture hope and optimism in our lives.
Carry on and garden and be with your friends. Have a great weekend.
I really enjoyed this! It may be my most favorite from Momo’s list. Thank you for the positive vibes.
