Summer is around the corner which means lots of outdoor cooking. In Colorado we got about 4” of snow last week and 6” today, but I have faith that summer is gonna come and with it a lot of outdoor cooking. I have had a grill for a few years that I like, but I never thought about a griddle. To be honest I never even considered an outdoor griddle, but then I had a conversation with my sister.
My sister, Melissa, lives in a rural area north of Denton TX. They cook outdoors year round, and they have it down. Tom, her husband, is without a doubt a Pit Master, and I would go a little further and say Master Barbequer. One of the highlights of going to their house is the hope that he will be cooking and I will be on the receiving end of whatever he is cooking. Melissa is no cook slouch either. Tom has a barbecue grill style that he has developed for years so I was stunned when Melissa mentioned that they had gotten a Blackstone Outdoor Griddle and were thinking of getting rid of their grill.
Melissa says that the grilled veggies are incredible, and it is easy to steam the vegetables with the Basting Cover. The steak tastes better than on the grill because it is cooking in its own juices. It is easy to clean, well-made, and they recommend getting some of the Blackstone accessories which I have listed below.
The Blackstone Griddle has an easy start, battery powered push button ignition. The burners heat up the griddle very quickly and you can set the burners to different settings in case you need to slow cook something on the side while you are frying on the other side. There is no flame to watch out for like with a grill which makes it pretty easy to cook on. Blackstone has many add ons which give you a lot of versatility. Melissa and Tom found the wind guard helpful and the cover makes it easier to leave outside. Here are some of the other accessories that they like.
Wide Spatula. Every griddle owner needs a good, durable griddle spatula. The spatula is made of durable stainless steel, and has an ergonomic slip-resistant and heat resistant handle. The blade is made of durable stainless steel with beveled edges perfect for chopping and scraping and easily slides under food.
Griddle Press. It is crafted with heavy-gauge cast iron which is perfect for giving that burger the extra something it's been missing.
Round Basting Cover. It quickly melts cheese and steams veggies. The heat resistant handle is a necessity for making sure your hands don't get burned when moving your basting cover on and off the griddle.
Press and Sear Burger Kit. Press, season, and flip. This kit features the Press & Sear Burger Tool, 10 oz. Spice Dredge, and heavy duty Hamburger Spatula. The act of smashing your burger is a technique used around the world in the best burger joints. By pressing and searing your burgers you lock in all the flavor, while simultaneously creating that coveted smash burger crust.
The more I started to think about Blackstone Griddle, the more it made sense. With a griddle you have so many more cooking options like pancakes, eggs, grilled cheese, any grilled vegetables as well as steak and hamburger.
It has a grease trap that is easy to clean. The surface of the griddle can be removed for cleaning. It is made entirely of steel with heavy duty wheels. If you are thinking of buying a grill or upgrading consider a Blackstone Griddle instead.
